Did you know Grace Kim Portland started as a clothing line?

If you’ve been with me from the beginning, then you know that I was supposed to Launch in April of 2019.

Originally, I was going to start with what I believe in: A perfect tee. T shirts are one of my (if not my #1) wardrobe staples. In fact, it’s a must-have wardrobe staple in any woman’s closet.

The Original Plan:

I was going to do an initial “soft launch” of a great quality, perfect fit, T-shirt for women, with statements of truth on them.

My reasons for doing this soft launch t-shirt:

1) It would be the simplest of my designs, therefore also the quickest to produce and just get out there.

2) It would be an easy 1st step I could take to get past my mental road blocks that keep holding me back from starting.

Then something in me snapped.

After coming back from my trip to LA which was to kick start the production of this t-shirt line, I suddenly couldn’t stop seeing all the other t-shirts being sold everywhere: From cute tees similar to the kind I wanted to produce to low quality, mass produced promotional shirts. And then something in me snapped. I did not–could not be responsible for bringing ANOTHER t-shirt into the world when there was already more than enough.

And I’m so glad that happened.

Because I started Grace Kim Portland to create a line of clothing that would light you up. I don’t just love clothes, I love great designs. I love gorgeous fabrics, prints, textures and colors. I love quality craftsmanship and beautiful fits. And I love putting that all together into something that lights a person up every time they see it. And that’s what I want Grace Kim Portland to be. I want it to be the clothes in your closet that delight you to even see it hanging there. And the piece of clothing that puts a bounce in your step when you slip it on so that you can go into the world feeling your best, being your best, and giving your best.

The New Plan

If I am going to put another piece of clothing into the world, these are the values my designs must meet:

  1. Does it absolutely light me up to see it?
  2. Is it something I can see someone wearing for more than 5 years?
  3. Is it made with the best I could find to the best of my belief and ability? (i.e. ethical & eco-friendly)
  4. Will it be able to withstand the normal wear and tear of time?
  5. Are there pockets? (to pieces that apply)

I have been following a non toxic lifestyle and have become increasingly conscious of the environment as well. Coming from the fashion industry I am very aware that we are the largest contribution to our landfills that produce toxic waste which is harming our planet.

I couldn’t bring myself to bring another t-shirt into this world at the harm of our planet.

Being conscious and intentional about what I produce means this new projected launch date will be a few years out now.

One super simple step you can do to help the planet and your wallet:  Buy better quality clothes.

I recognize that not everyone comes from a Fashion manufacturing background which is why I created a FREE, step-by-step guide on how to read your clothes for quality. How to shop for clothes that will last you years, not weeks. Grab your free download HERE.
