Sustainable Products for an Eco-Friendly Home

May 3, 2021

I pulled together a few of my favorite things that I’ve swapped out over the years to be a little more environmentally conscious in our home.

Let’s play a quick game: Guess what the most toxic thing in your house is!

Hint: It’s not the bottle of bleach under your sink…

I love all things home, so this was a fun list to put together. I pulled together a few of my favorite things that I’ve swapped out over the years to be a little more environmentally conscious in our home.

Hopefully you’ll find a thing or 2 that inspires or works for your home and lifestyle. 🙂

(Answer to the question: dryer sheets!)

(And the easiest solution? Wool Laundry balls (#1 in the post below))

Sustainable alternative Products for an Eco-Friendly Home.
  1. Wool Dryer Balls
  • Replaces dryer sheets
  • The easiest switch you could make to create a healthier home and planet.
  • They do everything dryer sheets do and more. Cut down drying time, reduces static cling, reduces wrinkles, naturally softens your clothes…
  • To add scent, I add a couple drops of my favorite essential oils on each ball and voila!

2. Empty Spray Bottles

  • Replaces plastic bottles
  • Once you have them you’ll end up finding uses for them. Especially as you start to buy refillable products.
  • I use these to make different potency solutions with Thieves cleaner. Since Thieves Cleaner is a concentrated bottle, 2 capfuls are enough for one 16oz bottle. I fill the rest with water.

3. Thieves Cleaner

  • Replaces toxic cleaners
  • This is a plant-based, all-natural, all-purpose cleaner that works miracles and smells like Christmas. We use this on EVERYTHING. From taking out blood stains, to cleaning bathroom mildew, to cleaning kitchen counters.
  • Plus, it comes camping with us. We use this to clean our dishes and anything that needs to be sanitized and feel great knowing it’s not harmful to the environment.
  • Thieves is the product that turned me onto the world of essential oils when I experienced how effective it was! And it’s extremely concentrated making it ridiculously affordable!

4. Reusable Sponges

  • Replaces disposable sponges
  • At the time of posting, this is the one product on this list I have yet to try. I have tried a different type of reusable “sponge” that I loved (it was from my mom’s friend) but I have read good things about these sponges linked here!

5. Refillable Soaps

  • Replaces one-time-use plastic bottles.
  • I use Puracy hand soap and dishwasher soaps. As far as I know they’re products are clean, work well, and are are affordable!

6. Refillable bottles

  • Replaces one-time-use plastic bottles.
  • I bought mine here on Etsy. I have them in my kitchen and bathroom and they make a huge aesthetic difference too.

7. Kitchen Towels

  • Get More!
  • Replaces paper towels.
  • We have a drawer full of kitchen towels and have significantly cut down our paper towel waste.

8. Reusable Containers

  • Replaces plastic zip-loc bags
  • I am obsessed with these Stasher bags! They are dishwasher safe, microwave safe, freezer safe, and you can boil them!
  • However, anything that comes in a plastic container (deli meats, ice cream, etc) we try to re-use as much as possible before tossing.

9. Reusable Wrap

  • Replaces plastic cling wrap
  • I’m still getting the hang of these re-usable wraps made of beeswax but I’m starting to love them and they now have so many different fun patterns!
